ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Michelle Mannisto has taken on the challenge this year of starting an entirely new athletic department at Orion International Academy High School.  She will also be the Hunter’s first Girl’s Basketball Coach.   With the talented student athletes and Coach Mannisto’s experience, the 2017-2018 athletic teams will most definitely be filled with excitement and success.

Previously, Coach Mannisto took on late starting new program at Gavilan College which only rostered six players.  The team was able to break college school records.  They were also selected to the first round of CCCAA play offs in their first season.  Michelle had the opportunity to enjoy coaching an All-American at San Diego High School as well as many other talented student athletes.

Michelle Mannisto grew in a small Upper Peninsula Village in Michigan.  As a basketball player, Coach Mannisto was on the 1983-1984 DeTour, Michigan High School State Championship Team with an astounding 28-0 record.  In 1986 her high school team was ranked #1 in the state and finished with a 27-2 record.  In 1987 as a senior, Coach Mannisto earned All-State Honors in both Basketball and Track & Field.  She was also an ALL-Conference Volleyball player.  To this day she still holds records in Track & Field at DHS.  Coach Mannisto furthered her athletic career by going on to play NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball at the University of Detroit.

Academically, Michelle was 3rd in her graduating class with a 3.65 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society for three years. Michelle received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Physical Education & Exercise Science from California State University.  Coach Mannisto also completed her Masters Degree at California State University-Chico as she began her coaching career.  She had also previously obtained an Associates Degree in Industrial Science while working at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan.

Michelle Mannisto is currently a Realtor at Keller Williams.  She has sold over $53 million of real estate over her 16 years in sales from luxury residential and new construction projects to commercial transaction.  She is also a Certified Distress Property Expert and closed over $11 million in short sales.
